Sue and Robin’s girl Tepi had six puppies recently, including the first black-and-white puppies born in South Africa. I’d be very tempted to adopt one if I wasn’t dealing with settling in our own “human puppy”. Some pictures of the hungry critters below

Kuta had a nasty dewclaw injury yesterday. Looks like the nail snapped off completely, leaving just a red nub of what seems to be painful inner nerves. I cleaned it up and there seems to be no other damage. She’s licking at it and yelps every now and again from the pain. From what I can gather (and a day later it seems true) the nail layer will start growing over the nub.
This incident led me into googling for dewclaw injuries and I ended up with all sorts of online debates about docking tails and removing dewclaws. I was asked abut it with the puppies last year, but I decided not to. I think they are there for some reason and if it does become a chronic injury with Kuta, then I’ll consider surgery.
At least Kuta seems fine, but I’ll keep an eye on things. I’ve added some older photos too
